I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go Wednesday - NYC Kids Tours: Tour of Greenwich Village and One Funny Mother

We were given a free NYC Kids Tour of Greenwich Village for free for review purposes Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.
What: NYC Kids Tours: Tour of Greenwich Village

Where: Tour starts at the Northwest corner of 14th St and 8th Ave
(in front of the Old New York Savings Bank Clock - now a CVS Pharmacy)
              New York, NY

Who: Ages 6-11

Mom's view: Most walking tours are not necessarily for children and may even be boring for most children. NYC Kids Tours, however, are specifically meant for children ages 6-11. These tours are not just about following a guide around and listening to him or her talk. They are interactive. The guide keeps the children involved by asking them questions along the way. The guide asks things like why do they thing something is a certain way or what do they think a certain thing will feel like. Children are encouraged not just to use their sense of sight but to use their sense of touch as well. They get to touch various buildings and fountains and statues and feel how the fact that they are made from different materials makes them feel differently. They may even get to use their sense of taste as well to sample one of Greenwich Village's famous delicious treats. Children are also given a fun workbook that they can complete as they walk around on their tour or they can take home and fill in later if they prefer. However, just because these tours are for children doesn't mean that they will not appeal to adults and older children as well. After all, like on most walking tours, you will still learn a lot of interesting information and get to see many famous sites. On the NYC Kids Tour of Greenwich Village, famous sites include the Blue Note Jazz Club and Washington Square Park. All in all, the tour involves about 1.5 miles of walking so if you and/or your children cannot do this much walking this might not be the tour for you. If that doesn't bother you, and you want to learn more about NYC Kids Tours Greenwich Village tour or any of their other tours or to book one of their tours go to http://nyckidstours.com/index.html.

What: One Funny Mother

Where: New World Stages
            340 W. 50th St.
            New York, NY

Who: Adults

Mom's view: One Funny Mother is definitely not for kids. It is, however, a great show for a Girls Night out. It is Dena Blizzard's one women show. Ms. Blizzard is a former beauty queen who is now a wife and a mother of 3. The show is neither a strict stand-up routine nor a story with a plot.  It is a cross between both. Ms. Blizzard comments on kids and family life while playing a woman doing her daily household chores such as folding laundry and straightening up her house. Ms. Blizzard plays a heightened version of herself. If she actually drank as much as the character in the show does she would need to get herself immediately to Alcoholics Anonymous.  Although not every mother can relate to everything in the show,  any mother can relate to at least some of what Ms. Blizzard talks about. Any father can relate to at least some of what Ms. Blizzard talks about too. However, any man attending the show should be aware that there is a chance that he may become the butt of one of Ms. Blizzard's jokes. However, most of the men that attended the performance I saw seemed to be enjoying themselves although maybe not quite as much as the women. At a running time of approximately 80 minutes, the show is just long enough without being too long. For more information or to order tickets go to http://onefunnymother.com/,

And that's Mom's view. Tune in to tomorrow's Talking Topics post for Aurella's view of NYC Kids Tours: Tour of Greenwich Village.
