I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go-Wednesday - ARTech: Adventures in Art and Technology

What: ARTech: Adventures in Art and Technology

Where: 459 W. 14th St.

When: Now through April 29, 2017

Who: Ages 4 and Up

Me - ARTTech was fun. They had all kinds of things for kids to do there that involved science, technology, engineering, math and/or art. You got to make a movie. You took a lot of objects made out of paper and moved them around and took a picture. Then, you moved them around and took another picture. You kept doing that, and then you put them together to make a fast motion movie. They were going to put the movies online and you could look it up and see yours. I was also in a movie. Basically the same way except besides moving the paper objects around behind me, I made different poses in each shot. They were going to put that movie online too. You got to make a car. Then, you got to try different tracks to see which one it would work on. There was a planterium. It was cool! You had to crawl under to get in. They had some other things too, but some of them were too young for me, and some just didn't interest me. Over all, it was a fun place. but it is is only temporary so if you want to go you should go soon.

Mom -ARTTech, a joint venture facilitated by the Meatpacking District BID in a partnership with the New York Hall of Science and the Children's Museum of the Arts, is a temporary installation in the meatpacking district where kids can learn about art and technology. It gives them the opportunity to learn STEM concepts (science, technology, engineering and math) in a fun way. They can make their own digital movie. They can build a car out of cardboard and other art materials. They can visit a planetarium and learn about the stars. These are just a few of the activities available at ARTech. The variety of activities available should appeal to children from about ages 4 to 12. There are activities that seem more geared for younger children like a giant ball pit and an area where children can build things with wooden planks, wheels and pulleys among other things. Other areas seem of  more interest to older children like making their own digital movie or adding to a giant post it art installation. Other areas are great for everyone like learning about the constellations in the pop-up planetarium. Of course, there are no age restrictions on any of the activities and if an older child wants to build things or whatever they can and if a younger child wants to make a movie or create a post it or whatever they can do that as well. ARTTech is just a really enjoyable place for children to learn, explore and create. There is no fee for visiting ARTech, and each visitor is allowed a one hour allotment of time in the space. However, tickets are required for everyone including adults and registration is required in advance.

  1. This would be a good thing to do with my grandson and then walk the highline.
