Theater Thursday - That Chemistry Show and The Amazing Max

We were given free tickets to That Chemistry Show for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: That Chemistry Show

Where: The Physics Theatre

When: Second Saturday and Sunday of the month

Who: 10 and up

Me- That Chemistry show was good. The show was made up of a bunch of cool chemistry experiments. The experiments were interesting. One of the experiments I especially liked was one where they were burning different elements to show that they burned in different colors. There was another experiment were there was a secret message. When they sprayed it with Windex the message showed up, but then when it dried the message disappeared. When they sprayed more Windex on it the message appeared again. All the other experiments were really cool too! I learned a lot during the course of the show. Sometimes, science can be boring. This is definitely not one of those times. That Chemistry Show makes science seem really fun! Even if you don't like science, you will probably still enjoy this show. On the whole, That Chemistry Show was a really fun show to see.

Mom - If you don't believe science can be fun, you've never seen That Chemistry show. If you are looking for a show with a plot and a story this is not it. However, if you want to see a lot of cool science experiments performed by an actual scientist, you will love this show. Where else can you find out how a candle can move water, how to make secret writing and how to make elephant toothpaste all in one show? The show is not just cut and dried science either where you sit and listen to a lecture and watch somebody else perform experiments and get bored. Even though, of course, Scientist Borislaw Bilash is the one performing the experiments, he keeps things lively. He keeps the audience involved throughout by asking questions and encouraging them to make observations and occasionally by asking for volunteers. He also has a good personality and can be very humorous at times as well which makes the show even more entertaining. This is not a show for very young children. However, it is a great show for older children especially if you want them to see that science doesn't have to be boring.

Who: 3 and up

Me - The Amazing Max was incredible. It was a  magic show. The tricks were fantastic. One really cool trick was when he was able to predict the name and animal that kids from the audience had written and placed in a box. There was a pre- show where the Amazing Max taught kids how to do a magic trick. The kids that attended the pre- show got a trick to take home. He did a very good job of keeping the young kids involved, because he asked them a lot of questions and picked kids from the audience to help with some of the tricks. Unlike most shows, if a little kid called out it was fine. The kids that got picked to help with tricks got a magic wand. Some of the tricks were not as exciting as others, but most of them were really unbelievable!  Little kids would love this show. All in all the Amazing Max was a very fun show to see.

Mom -  The Amazing Max is magician, Max Darwin. While the target audience of his show is young children and his lively and energetic personality clearly plays to that crowd, that doesn't mean that this isn't a show that will appeal to older children and adults. Max is no parlor trick magician with simple tricks that it seems like anyone could do without any formal training. He has some really big tricks up his sleeve like levitating a volunteer from the audience and making a person disappear and then appear in another place. It isn't necessarily that you have never seen any of  his tricks before, but Max puts his own unique spin on them and makes them seem new again  The show is very engaging and the 65 minute running time will seem to pass by in the blink of an eye.
