I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Tips for Tuesday - Books: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Call Me Sunflower and One minute Mysteries: Short Mysteries You Solve With Math

We may have been given some of the below-mentioned books for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Me - Today I am recommending Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. I really enjoyed this book. It is fun and interesting. The characters are funny and likable. I did not think I was going to like this book because although I usually like fantasy that involves fairy tale characters; I do not usually like those that involves wizards and stuff like that. I only agreed to read the book because Harry Potter is my sister's favorite book series, and now I love it too. Anyone would love this book even if they don't normally like this type of book. I only would not recommend this book for beginning readers because it would be too hard  for them and/or younger children who scare easily because there can be some scary elements of the plot. However, all in all it is a really great book for almost everyone, and I would highly recommend it.

Mom - Today I am recommending two books. Both are for middle grade readers.

The first is the novel, Call Me Sunflower, by Miriam Spritzer Franklin. When Sunflower (Sunny) Beringer's mother drags Sunny and her younger sister across the country to live with their grandmother leaving behind the only father they've every known,  Sunny is miserable. Instead of trying to make the best of things, Sunny schemes to bring her parents back together. This a very relatable story with interesting characters which any tween or young teen should enjoy whether they've ever been in a similar situation or not.

The second is the non-fiction book One Minute Mysteries Short Mysteries You Solve With Math. These book is basically a book of short math problems with the problem one one side and the answer on the other. However, the problems are presented in cute little stories using real life situations. This book is not going to turn any kid who does not like math into a math lover, and in fact it will probably just frustrate them. However, kids who do like math will love these book. It will make them feel smart being able to solve the mysteries in this book before turning the page to see the answer. It is also a good book for kids who speak Spanish and/or are learning Spanish or English since each mystery and its answer are presented in both English and Spanish.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.
