I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Theater Thursday- Desperate Measures and Sleuth

We were given free tickets to Desperate Measures for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Desperate Measures

Where: York Theater at St. Peter's Church
             619 Lexington Ave
             New York, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 13 and Up

When: Now through October 30, 2017

Mom's view: Desperate Measures is Shakespeare's Measure for Measure updated and reset in the Wild West. Even if you don't like Shakespeare, you should still like this hilarious show. The acting is great. The songs are catchy, and they actually stay in your head after you've seen the show. A few of the standout songs are the comical Just for You and the sweet It's a Beautiful Day for a Lifelong Commitment. The latter is a mouthful of a title, but it is a really good song. The set and costumes are terrific. The rhyming couplets throughout the show get old after a while. We know the show is based on Shakespeare, it is not necessary to keep reminding us. However, if you can get past that, you will really enjoy this show.  It's not a good show for young children, however due to the subject matter. For teens and above, however, the show is great. It draws you in from the moment you walk into the theater and hear the sounds of cattle mooing and trains rustling by. Right away, you really feel like you are in the old west. By the time you hear the lively opening number, The Ballad of Johnny Blood, you're pumped up for a rollicking good time in the old west. This show certainly delivers that in spades. You won't want to miss it!

We were given tickets to Sleuth for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.
What: Sleuth

Where: Kelsey Theatre
             1200 Old Trenton Rd.
             West Windsor, NJ

Who: Teens and Up

When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday through October 15.

Mom's view: Sleuth is a mystery. The show is a bit slow at first, and it is hard to figure out what is going on. However, once it becomes clear what the story is, it becomes intriguing and unpredictable. It is not a good show for young children, however, not only due to the subject matter but because some parts of the show may be too scary for them. For example, the show involves a lot of guns and gunshots.  The current production of the show at Kelsey Theater is good. The show is well acted. The sets and costumes are great. Over all, if you like a  a show that keeps surprising you, you may enjoy this show.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Funtivity Friday.
