The Wing’s programs span the nation to invest in the growth and evolution of American Theatre. They provide theatre education opportunities for underserved students through the Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative, develop the next generation of theatre professionals through the SpringboardNYC and Theatre Intern Network programs, incubate innovative theatre across the country through the National Theatre Company Grants, foster the song of American Theatre through the Jonathan Larson^® Grants, honor the best in New York theatrical design with the Henry Hewes Design Award, and illuminate the creative process through the Emmy-nominated “Working in the Theatre” documentary series. Madison Square Garden

with the Camp Broadway Dance Team

Camp Broadway is seeking cast members for The Camp Broadway Dance Team, a 50-member musical theater group from around the country for its Center Court half-time performance at Madison Square Garden this August. Camp Broadway is accepting video submissions for young dancers between the ages of 11 and 16 to perform with the Camp Broadway Dance Team to perform at during the WNBA game for the New York Liberty. Participants will take part in a 2-day program with rehearsals and Broadway workshops on Sunday, August 5 and center court performance at Madison Square Garden on Monday, August 6.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: June 15, 2018 Eligibility & Audition Requirements: Auditionees must be between the ages of 11 & 16. Auditionees must have experience in dancing, and must be comfortable learning choreography at a fast pace. Cast Members must be able to attend rehearsals all day on Sunday, August 5 and on Monday, August 6 through the performance. If cast, a participation fee of $425 will be required at registration. Room and board is not provided. Application Guidelines: All prospective cast members must provide the following: Completed online application form Headshot and resume of performing experience Dance Video Video Audition Guidelines: All audition videos must include the following: Video intro stating name, age, and hometown The auditionees are required to submit an audition video demonstrating dance ability. An instructional video has been provided to rehearse the dance combination. Auditions using any other songs, or alternate choreography (including additions or alterations) will not be considered.  The video tutorial below is our standard choreography audition. Disregard any reference to other program names, or vocal submissions. This audition only calls for a dance submission. Choreography Submission Both male and female auditionees will learn the choreography selection set to the song “If My Friends Could See Me Now”.  Using the Dance Instructional Videos below, Camp Broadway’s Director / Choreographer, Holly Raye will break down the choreography to learn in three steps: Step 1: Learn the steps.  This video breaks down the choreography step-by-step without music at a slow pace. Step 2: Review without music.  This video puts the choreography together to practice the steps at a faster pace without music. Step 3: Final choreography demonstration. In this video Holly Raye performs the choreography at actual tempo with the music as it should appear in your final video submission. Create the final choreography video submission: For the final choreography video submission use the Final Audition Submission Track to accompany your performance.

Chinese Lantern Festival

The spectacular Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square is a celebration of light and culture that features artisans from China creating magnificent steel-framed and silk-wrapped giant lighted sculptures, using traditional Chinese methods. Franklin Square will glow with 28 larger-than-life illuminated groupings of 1,500 individual works of art with more than 15,000 LED lights in brilliant colors. The 200-foot giant fan favorite Chinese Dragon and beloved pandas return, but all other creations will be new for the 2018 Festival. New technology and engineering will be utilized to bring an endangered species gallery to life for the  first time in the United States.Other highlights include celebrating the Year of the Dog, tropical birds and fish, mythological animals, the world premiere of a new Fairy Tree, a walk-through Great White Shark Tunnel, and an interactive elephant lantern where visitors pedal a bicycle to change its colors. The lanterns are placed all around the Square, and guests walk among the displays each evening.

In addition to the gorgeous light installations, festival-goers will witness authentic cultural performances that are all new for 2018 including the unusual and impressive art of face-changing and a variety of different Chinese acrobatic acts. Visitors can taste Asian cuisine and American favorites, drink a toast at the Dragon Beer Garden open nightly, and shop for Chinese folk artists’ crafts created on site. Guests will still be able to play Philly Mini Golf, ride the Parx Liberty Carousel (additional tickets required for both), and enjoy Center City’s best play place. The lanterns are able to be viewed for free during daylight hours, while a ticket is required for nighttime entrance. A special video on the heritage of the Chinese lantern tradition and how they are created will be shown at the Festival.

 Broadway Unlocked founder Jessica Ryan announced today that the sixth annual #giveback concert is slated for Sunday, May 13 at 7.30pm at WNYC’s The Greene Space(44 Charlton Street).  Doors open at 6pm.  Along with producers Kelly Weaver and Mike Borges, Broadway Unlocked is bringing Broadway favorites together to perform and raise funds for the Crime Victims Treatment Center, a not-for-profit organization committed to helping people heal from violent crime.  The live concert is directed by Nathan Tysen (Tuck Everlasting, Amelie).

Paula Prilutski’s rediscovered masterwork ONE OF THOSE, a proto-feminist drama about an independent woman living in an unfree world, will be presented on Monday, May 14^th at 7 pm at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in a newly commissioned English translation (from the original Yiddish) by writer/director Allen Lewis Rickman. The one-night-only event, another of YIVO’s Treasures from the Archives, will benefit their new online class Oh Mama I’m in Love! The Story of the Yiddish Stage.  

In ONE OF THOSE, Judith Zaltsman, 21, cannot resign herself to the recent loss of her mother; nor can she bear her father’s second wife taking her mother’s place. Unable to remain at home, and with no options available, the strong-willed Judith makes choices she will forever regret. And despite her best efforts and the help of family and friends, Judith will find herself unable to escape the chains of her history.

To commemorate Mental Health Month this May, the Tony Award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen will join forces with TIME and the mental health-conscious beauty brand philosophy for “You Will Be Found,” an exclusive event to highlight contemporary mental health issues on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 3:30 PM, it was announced today. The one-day-only event will take place at Meredith’s downtown offices and will feature mental-health-focused conversations and a performance from the cast of Dear Evan Hansen. The panel will include actor/activist Rowan Blanchard, Dear Evan Hansen book writer Steven Levenson and mental health experts Dr. Harold Koplewicz (founder of Child Mind Institute), John MacPhee (Executive Director/CEO of JED Foundation) and Jeannette Pai-Espinosa (President of National Crittenton).

Rowan Blanchard One of Young Hollywood’s rising stars, Rowan Blanchard is quickly becoming an industry “go to” and a versatile talent to watch. Also in 2018, Blanchard published her first book entitled “Still Here.” The book is a curation of visual art, poetry, and writing from Rowan and other artists, based around the shared experience of growing up. It was well received to critical and fan acclaim. Blanchard is best known for her role as Riley Matthews, a teenager learning to navigate her relationship with family and friends as well as the bumpy journey of her teenage years in Disney Channel's comedy series Girl Meets World. Born in Los Angeles, Blanchard began acting at the age of five, when she was cast in an the first of what would be more than a dozen national network commercials to her credit. With a steady commercial career under her belt, Blanchard was soon cast as a series regular on the Disney Junior series Dance-A-Lot Robot in 2010.  She was next cast in the FOX pilot Little in Common, opposite Rob Corddry and Gabrielle Union. This fall, Blanchard will be seen starring in the Disney Channel Original Movie, Invisible Sister. In addition to her work in commercials and television, Blanchard has made an impact onscreen with several feature films including The Back-Up Plan with Jennifer Lopez, and a starring role in Spy Kids: All The Time In The World 4D also starring Jessica Alba and Joel McHale. Blanchard is a passionate humanitarian and has become educated in areas such as feminism, human rights, and gun violence. She has spoken at the UN Women and US National Committee's annual conference as part of #TeamHeForShe and continues to take action and get involved on behalf of her generation in these important areas. Harold S. Koplewicz, MD is the founding president of the Child Mind Institute. One of the nation’s leading child and adolescent psychiatrists, he is known as an innovator in the field and a master clinician. He has been repeatedly recognized in America’s Top Doctors and was named one of WebMD’s 2014 Health Heroes for his advocacy on behalf of children and teens with mental health and learning disorders. He is also the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology.

Steven Levenson is the Tony Award winning book writer of Dear Evan Hansen. His plays include If I Forget, The Unavoidable Disappearance Of Tom Durnin, Core Values, The Language of Trees, and Seven Minutes In Heaven. Honors include the Obie Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, Drama League Award, Drama Desk Nomination, Hull-Warriner Nomination, Lucille Lortel Nomination, and the Helen Hayes Award. A former Artist in Residence at Ars Nova and a member of the Roundabout Leadership Council, he worked for three seasons as a writer and producer on Showtime’s Masters of Sex and is a founding member of Colt Coeur and an alumnus of MCC’s Playwrights Coalition and Ars Nova’s Play Group. His plays are published by Dramatists Play Service and Playscripts. A graduate of Brown University, he is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America, Inc. and the WGA.

John MacPhee serves as the Executive Director and CEO of The Jed Foundation, a leading non-profit that exists to protect emotional health and prevent suicide among teens and young adults. John brings 25 years of leadership and management experience from the business and not-for-profit settings to his role at JED. Passionate about supporting young adults in their transition to adulthood, John advises several organizations including the S. Jay Levy Fellowship for Future Leaders at City College, Trek Medics, Crisis Text Line, the Health Policy and Management Department at the Mailman School of Public Health, and HIV Hero. Earlier in his career, he served in executive positions for Par Pharmaceutical, Inc. and Forest Laboratories, where he oversaw functions such as business development, alliance management, clinical development, regulatory affairs, sales and marketing. John continues to contribute to the development of novel medications for disorders such as Parkinson’s disease through board roles with Adamas Pharmaceuticals and Blackthorn Therapeutics. In 2016, John received The Allan Rosenfield Alumni Award for Excellence in the field of public health from the Joseph L. Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. He earned a BA from Columbia College, an MBA from New York University and an MPH from Columbia University.

Jeannette Pai-Espinosa is currently president of The National Crittenton Foundation (TNCF). She brings more than thirty years of experience in advocacy, education, intercultural communication, public policy, strategic communication, program development, and direct service delivery. Under her leadership at TNCF, the national umbrella for the 27 members of the Crittenton family of agencies, programs and services are provided in 32 states and the District of Columbia on a comprehensive mix of gender and culturally responsive, trauma informed and specific, developmentally appropriate, strength-based services to girls and young women whose lives have been impacted by childhood adversity, violence and trauma. Ms. Pai-Espinosa is a former partner of the Metropolitan Group, an award-winning social change agency specializing in serving social-purpose organizations and businesses, where much of her work focused on creating collaborative approaches to compelling social issues such as poverty, racial and gender disparities in educational outcomes, the disproportional representation of children and youth of color in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and bias crimes.

“Who do you think decides what is a big deal and what isn’t?” Inspired by Sophocles’ Antigone and origin stories from the American frontier, Our Country is set in California’s marijuana country, our still-Wild West. Based on recorded conversations between Annie Saunders and her younger brother, and steeped in childhood memories and mythologies from Ancient Greece, this autobiographical creation recalls a time when we were young — as siblings, as a nation, as a democratic system.

South Street Seaport Museum

The South Street Seaport Museum offers specially-designed birthday parties in the miniMates play-space, aboard the tall ship Wavertree (ages 6 and up),or charters sailing aboard the schooner Pioneer (ages 9 and up).

Ahoy! Celebrate a child's birthday at the Seaport Museum!

Come celebrate a child's birthday at the South Street Seaport Museum with an interactive experience they won't forget. Birthdays at the Seaport Museum are specially designed to be age appropriate for the birthday child, but guests of all ages will enjoy the fun.

For children 1-7, parties are hosted in our miniMates play-space.
Children 6 and up can board the South Street Seaport Museum's largest artifact, the tall ship Wavertree and have a party on her main deck, For children 9 and up, charter the historic schooner Pioneer for a celebratory sail of New York's Harbor!

Birthday parties in the miniMates play-space and on Wavertree run from either 11:30-1:30 or 2:30-4:30 on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information about chartering Pioneer, email charters@seany.org or call (212) 748-8568.

Parties are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30am-1:30pm or from2:30pm-4:30pm, and can be booked by emailing education@seany.org. Prominent French composer Claude Debussy (1862-1918) brought a seminal force to modern music of the 20th century. To celebrate his work, masterpieces and influence on major composers, painters and writers, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French-American Piano Society present a series of events from May 8-10, 2018.

The class will be exploring the piano music of Claude Debussy as part of the French Cultural Services' commemoration of the 100th anniversary of his death in 1918. 

This Master Class is free and open to all.
